In sports we talk a lot about the importance of being confident and confidence is incredibly important. The top competitors in the world are some of the most competent people in their abilities. But, sometimes we talk about confidence as if it’s something that you can just muster up out of thin air and it’s not.
The reality is that competence breeds confidence. We need evidence for our confidence. It’s the byproduct of all of our skills, hard work and preparation. The best competitors in the world are typically the most confident because they diligently prepare for the challenges that their sport presents. They don’t sit in hope that everything is going to go perfectly and that adversity doesn’t hit. They create plans for when adversity does hit because it will almost every single time. They’re confident because they’re the most competent.
